80-year prison term for Hancock County teenager who killed mother, sister

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — A Hancock County teenager is going to prison for 80 years after killing his mother and sister.

Connor Crowe was 13 in September 2020 when he shot and killed his mother, Melissa Rowland, and his teenage sister Madison Crowe. They were found dead in the family’s Weirton residence.

Crowe, now 15, pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree murder last November which carried a 10-40 year prison term. He was sentenced Tuesday to the maximum 80 years behind bars, 40 years on each count to be served consecutively.

Hancock County Prosecutor Steve Dragisich had sought the maximum sentence for Crowe.

“This family has to endure this for the rest of their lives and I’m hoping by the result that they get some closure and at least a little bit of comfort,” Dragisich said.

The prosecutor said there is still no clear motive as to why Crowe murdered two of his family members.

Crowe will remain in the juvenile system until he turns 18 then a hearing will be held to find out which facility he will be transferred to as an adult.
