Mountaineer Gas makes significant progress on Charleston’s West Side

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Mountaineer Gas reported Sunday it has nearly 900 customers on Charleston’s West Side either back in service or ready for reconnection.

The utility has made significant progress in recent days to rid 46 miles of its lines in a concentrated area of thousands of gallons of water from a Nov. 10 water main break.

The original outage number was approximately 1,100 customers.

Mountaineer Gas’ Sunday evening report included 690 customers restored with 200 more ready to be inspected and reconnected.

Mountaineer has 51 crews working in the area along with contractors who are replacing hot water heaters and furnaces in some homes.

Work is scheduled to continue Monday. Mountaineer Gas predicts full restoration in another 5-6 days.
