Candidate filing deadline for May 14 primary quickly approaching

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The deadline to file to run as a candidate in the May Primary Election is Saturday at midnight. Several previously announced candidates for high-profile offices filed their paperwork Monday.

Republican gubernatorial hopefuls Moore Capito and Chris Miller completed paperwork at the Secretary of State’s Office Monday morning.

“As a lifelong West Virginian and father of two young kids, the future of this state is personal to me,” Capito, the former state lawmaker, said in a news release. “Since announcing my candidacy a little over a year ago, I have traveled more than 60,000 miles meeting with and listening to the concerns of voters. I stand ready to work with all West Virginians to answer their concerns and take our state to the next level.”

Miller, a Huntington businessman, said it was an honor to file for office.

“I am grateful for the support and prayers from folks across the state. I look forward to continuing my mission to break up the good old boys network in Charleston and create a government that treats West Virginians like valued customers,” Miller said.

State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who leads in the polls for governor, and Secretary of State Mac Warner previously filed in the GOP gubernatorial primary.

State Auditor J.B. McCuskey filed paperwork Monday at the Harrison County Courthouse to seek the Republican nomination in the race for state Attorney General. Kanawha County Republican State Senator, former federal prosecutor, Mike Stuart plans to file for the Attorney General’s race Tuesday afternoon at the capitol.

Delegate Chris Pritt, R-Kanawha, announced Monday on WCHS Radio’s 580 Live with Dave Allen that he was no longer planning to run for Secretary of State but instead would seek a state Senate seat.

The Primary Election is set for Tuesday, May 14.
