Monongalia County Republican Committee member seriously injured in bicycle wreck

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a bicycle crash that seriously injured former Morgantown City Council member and current Monongalia County Republican Party Executive Committee member Wes Nugent.

Deputies said the crash occurred last Friday afternoon on Idlewood Drive near the intersection with Stewart Street.

Nugent, who works for WVU Extension, suffered serious injuries. He’s hospitalized in critical condition.  A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family with expenses.

Nugent graduated from WVU in 1999 and served as a past president of the Wiles Hill-Highland Park Neighborhood Association, a past president of the WVU Alumni Band, a member of Morgantown City Council from 2011 through 2017, and served a term as deputy mayor. Nugent represents Monongalia County Executive Committee District 1 and the West Virginia Republican Party’s Senatorial Executive Committee for the 13th Senatorial District.
