Lincoln walks it off in extra innings against East Hardy, 8-7

SHINNSTON, W.Va. — In a game that featured six lead changes, Lincoln earned a walk-off victory over East Hardy, 8-7 in 8 innings. The game was part of the annual McDonald’s Classic.

The teams traded runs in the first inning before Lincoln (2-7) scored three runs in the second inning to build a 4-1 lead. No. 10 East Hardy (5-3) scored once in the third and three more times in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. However, Lincoln scored a run without the benefit of a base hit in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5 and send it to extra innings.

East Hardy regained the advantage by scoring two runs in the top of the eighth. However, Lincoln completed their final comeback with a three-run frame that was capped by Colton Edwards scoring on a wild pitch.

Christian Mazzei earned the victory for Lincoln by pitching the game’s final three innings. Levi Mongold pitched effectively in relief for East Hardy. He allowed three runs [one earned] in 6 1/3 innings.

Noah Sears led Lincoln at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with a walk. Maddox Perine went 2-for-3 with a walk.

Evan Hamilton and Levi Price each had multi-hit games for East Hardy.
