Baker left behind North Texas to become the athletic director at WVU in December 2022, agreeing to a six-year contract at that time.
The extension keeps Baker under contract at West Virginia through the 2030 calendar year.
West Virginia’s athletic department has undergone significant coaching change since Baker’s arrival.
Josh Eilert was named interim head coach of the men’s basketball program in the wake of Bob Huggins’ arrest for DUI. Eilert was not retained at the conclusion of last season, and the Mountaineers have since hired Darian DeVries to be head coach.
Following the sudden departure of former women’s basketball head coach Dawn Plitzuweit after one season, Mark Kellogg was hired under Baker’s watch to guide that program.
WVU also has a new volleyball coach in Jen Greeny and will soon have a new swimming and diving coach following the April resignation of Vic Riggs.
Baker was Director of Athletics at North Texas from 2016-2022.
