Private memorial to be held for Jerry West, family says memorial donations can be accepted by WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In keeping with Jerry West’s wishes, there will be no public memorial for the West Virginia University and NBA legend. West passed away last week at age 86.

“We will honor Jerry’s wishes and mourn his passing privately,” his family said in a statement released Thursday by the Los Angeles Clippers. West had been working for the Clippers as a consultant.

In the statement, West’s family requested that memorial donations can be made to four funds set up at West Virginia University.

“Jerry’s heart never left West Virginia,” the statement said.
