MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — City council has set aside about $213,000 for the operation of the triage and warming shelter for the 2024-25 winter and transportation.
The funds are part of the allocation of $1.3 million in carry over funds.
Council approved the transfer of $150,000 for the operation of the triage shelter. That will be paired with $150,000 from the Monongalia County Commission to bring the total funding for the shelter to $300,000.
The state allocation of $167,000 will also be added to that in order to reach the $450,000 budget number Catholic Charities said they would need to operate the triage shelter formerly operated by Bartlett Housing Solutions.
Council also approved $33,000 to maintain free transportation to Hazel’s House of Hope through the Mountain Line Transit Authority.
Also approved was another $30,000 to operate the warming shelter for the 2024-25 winter.
The city and county will begin reviewing proposals from non-profits to operate the warming shelter. The proposals were due Thursday evening.
