Suspect in custody after Friday night shooting in Kanawha County

John Lee Herald

CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. — An argument in eastern Kanawha County Friday left one man wounded and another man behind bars.

Kanawha County Deputies were called Friday night to the Cedar Grove Fire Department in reference to a man with a gunshot wound. When deputies arrived they learned the victim was a 62-year old man who lived in the Cedar Grove area. He has been shot in the lower leg.

The victim told police he was shot in a fight with John Lee Herald, 59, of Cedar Grove at a home on East George Street in Cedar Grove. The victim claimed the two were arguing over personal property and it escalated into Herald producing a firearm and shooting the victim.

Herald was arrested and charged with a single count of malicious wounding. He’s in the South Central Regional Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond. The victim is in serious condition at CAMC General Hospital. Authorities say though his wound were serious they are not considered life threatening.
