Police say early morning homicide in Charleston was over a woman

Anthony Gross

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – — One man is dead and another behind bars after an early morning stabbing in downtown Charleston.

According to Charleston Police Brandon Bandy, 29, of Elkview suffered multiple stab wounds around 3:30 a.m. Thursday along Leon Sullivan Way in downtown Charleston. Charged with first degree murder in his death is Anthony Gross, 38 of Charleston.

According to police Gross was initially talking to a woman who wanted nothing to do with him so he left the area. He returned a short time later and found the same woman talking to Bandy.

“When he witnessed Mr. Bandy talking to the female, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed him multiple times, said Charleston Police Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett.

Gross was arrested several hours later and only a few blocks from where the stabbing took place. He’s in the Southcentral Regional Jail.
