Arrest made in 38-mile multi-county pursuit

STONEWOOD, W.Va. — The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department has apprehended the man charged in a 38-mile multi-county chase Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.

Police attempted to stop Zackery Michael Shook of Mount Clare on I-79 near the Stonewood exit at 3:15 p.m. He then led police through Upshur, Lewis and Harrison counties before exiting at the Stonewood exit.

Shook drove into Stonewood and fled the vehicle on foot into a wooded area, where he was captured with the help of drones and K-9 officers.

Shook has been charged with fleeing and felony fleeing while under the influence of a controlled substance in Harrison and Upshur counties.

Sheriff’s departments in Lewis, Harrison and Upshur counties, the Mountaineer Highway Interdiction Team, the Nutter Fort Police Department, and West Virginia State Police all participated in the pursuit.
