KELLYS CREEK, W.Va. — The U.S. Marshal’s Office says a man wanted in connection with several crimes in the Fairmont and Morgantown areas was arrested Monday morning in eastern Kanawha County.
Jamie Ray Jones, 32, was picked up at a residence in the Kellys Creek area near Cedar Grove at around 8:30 a.m.
Jones is charged with kidnapping and attempted first degree murder in one case and being an accessory after the fact of murder in another case.
Jones tried to run from the Kelly’s Creek residence this morning—but he was taken into custody.
According to the U.S. Marshal Service, “Jones, and others are alleged to have kidnapped a man by force with a firearm from a residence in Morgantown on April 27, 2023. After kidnapping the man, the perpetrators, including Jones, held the man and threatened him with death while they were searching for the man’s brother in Fairmont. They eventually located the brother near 321 Maple Avenue Extension, where they began shooting out of the vehicle at the brother. One of the perpetrators was also struck by gunfire during the exchange and the kidnapping victim escaped from the vehicle. Warrants for Jones arrest were issued May 5, 2023.”
The U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force has been looking for Jones for more than a year including follow-up on leads in five states.
