Antero Resources donates truck to Camp Mountaineer, Scouting America

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Antero Resources has donated a new pickup truck to Scouting America, Mountaineer Area Council, for use at the more than 1,000-acre Camp Mountaineer in Monongalia County.

Kevin Ellis

Regional Senior Vice President Kevin Ellis said the truck used for several years at the camp developed a mechanical problem at the time a fleet review already underway by the company identified an ideal option. Scouting Executive Scott Hanson had been looking for options when Ellis identified the possibility.

“We at Antero were in the process of evaluating our own fleet, and we identified a vehicle we thought would be a great fit for what Scott and the staff at Camp Mountaineer would need,” Ellis said.

Ellis said the mission of scouting in preparing youth for the future aligns with their company culture, and Antero Resources has long supported the organization. Additionally, many Antero Resources employees and families are active in Scouting America.

“Scouting America models and mentors our young people for leadership, and that’s an important endeavor,” Ellis said. “We want to be behind that and make those kinds of investments in those kinds of causes, and scouting lines up perfectly with that.”

The new truck will support activities across the expansive 1,000 acres of Camp Mountaineer with activities that include water recreation, shooting, camping, zip lining, and climbing.

“The vehicle will be used to transport equipment, supplies, and materials throughout Camp Mountaineer in support of scouting activities,” Ellis said. “So, the different camps and activities out there.”

“At Camp Mountaineer, we are responsible for over 1,000 acres of land, which is a lot to keep up with,” said Scott Hanson, Scout Executive and CEO, Mountaineer Area Council. “This truck is a huge benefit, allowing us to complete necessary tasks quicker and ensure facilities are always in their best shape for Scouts and visitors to enjoy.”

Camp Mountaineer was opened in 1954 and supports local chapters and is also used by regional Scouting America groups.

“This weekend there will be close to 500 scouting members at Camp Mountaineer from other states for a weekend of camping, and with the truck there they will have additional resources to make that a success.” Ellis said
