Drifter charged with setting two fires in McDowell County

ELKHORN, W.Va. –– A drifter from Michigan is behind bars in West Virginia this morning charged with setting a pair of fires this week in McDowell County.

State Police were called to the community of Elkhorn in McDowell County Monday when a suspicious individual was seen leaving the scene of a fire at the Elkhorn Head-Start building.

Troopers were able to identify the individual as Anthony Bale Scott. They say he left the area, but returned and set fire to a second building in the same community. He was arrested in the vicinity of the second fire and troopers say evidence showed he set both blazes.

Scott is charged with two counts of second degree arson. Troopers say Scott had travelled to the area by hopping trains from Michigan.

An investigation into the fires is ongoing.
