WVU provides presidential search update

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The search for the next president of West Virginia University is on schedule and interviews are expected to begin soon, it was announced Friday.

Search Committee Chair Patrice Harris said search firm WittKiefer has been reviewing submissions from candidates while continuing the recruiting and networking process nationwide.

“They have been vetting a competitive pool of candidates, reviewing all nominations and applications, as well as proactively recruiting individuals across the country who they think would be a great fit to serve,” Harris said.

Harris said the effort is entering what she called the “quiet phase,” but she said the Ad Hoc Governance Committee, Presidential Search Committee, and WittKiefer continue to get the word out about the position while reviewing information from those interested in the position.

“Recruitment conversations are in full swing with WittKiefer,” Harris said. “We’ve now entered what they call the quiet period and we remain on track with our recruitment process.”

The BOG and ad hoc search committee will review resumes, conduct initial interviews, and reduce the field to the top three to five candidates. The same group will conduct in-person interviews with the finalists, and the next president of WVU will be announced in the spring of 2025.

“As previously noted in our timeline, the search committee will review and interview candidates over the fall and winter,” Harris said.

Names of the finalists will not be released as part of the process in order to protect those who apply and to prevent disruptions during the interview process.

“The Board of Governors will interview a group of select finalists, and the intention remains to make a selection in the spring of 2025,” Harris said.

WVU President Gordon Gee is under contract through next June.
