CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Thanksgiving will begin on the soggy side.
“We’ve got a big rain system moving in tonight,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Ray Young said Wednesday during an appearance on MetroNews “Talkline.” “Everybody can expect to have a wet period tonight into early Thanksgiving, then every can expect it to taper off as we get into Thanksgiving.”
Young said the rain is the transition. He said after the front moves through winter like temperatures will cover the Mountain State.
“We will have very cold temperatures for the weekend. We’re talking highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s and maybe even the teens,” he said.
That will cold enough to produce some snow in the eastern mountains Friday afternoon into Friday night, Young said.
“We’re not looking at a lot of precip, this is just kind of an upslope, cold air snow, as the stuff moves in,” Young said. “It’s going to be light amounts but cold enough for things to stick.”
Young said a second storm system will come into the state Saturday which could produce snow in the lowlands.
