BOLT, W.Va. — Police are investigating a shooting in Raleigh County Friday that left a man dead after he shot at a deputy.
The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that a call came in about 9 a.m. Friday where a quote, “mentally disturbed individual” who had a gun was in the residential community of Breckenridge Village in Bolt.
Upon arrival to the scene, deputies said the suspect immediately began firing, injuring one deputy responding to the incident. The officer then returned fire, killing the suspect.
The deputy was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Detectives with The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police are currently investigating. No names have been released at this time.
