HAMLIN, W.Va. — Leaders in Lincoln County are considering a sale of the Public Service District to West Virginia American Water.
Over the years the PSD has had issues with service, including in the last few weeks during the harsh winter weather that prompted power outages.
The Lincoln County Commission will hold a special meeting on Thursday Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the main courtroom at the courthouse in Hamlin.
Representatives from WVAW will be on hand to answer questions from the public about the possible acquisition. Residents will also have an opportunity to voice their concerns.
Commissioner Josh Stowers says that the meeting comes as a result of ongoing issues with the PSD and months of conversations have brought the situation to this point.
West Virginia American Water released the following statement in connection with the upcoming meeting:
“West Virginia American Water is aware of the challenges facing the Lincoln Public Service District and the impact these have had on customers. As a company committed to providing reliable water service to communities across West Virginia, we are always open to exploring opportunities that benefit customers and strengthen water infrastructure. West Virginia American Water will continue to evaluate all options to determine how we could best serve the needs of Lincoln County and provide access to safe, clean, and reliable water service for the region.”
