Man dies in Mercer County fire

BLUEWELL, W.Va. — An 84-year-old Mercer County man died this week after being overtaken by a brush fire.

According to the state Fire Marshal’s Office, the man was burning brush on property at Nemours Valley Road in Bluewell Monday afternoon when the flames got out of control.

The man collapsed trying to put out the flames, investigators said.

The body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office and state Division of Forestry are investigating.
