CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Rain totals from the National Weather Service show more than three inches of rain fell in less than 12 hours over the Interstate 64 corridor between Huntington and Charleston producing flash flooding.
The NWS posted the rainfall monitoring totals Friday.
A rain gauge at Salt Rock in Cabell County showed 3.86 inches of rain and a similar reading was reported in South Charleston. The official total for Charleston was 3.44 inches.
The most intense rain fell between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday. It was part of training thunderstorms that left caused flash flooding in Huntington, Hurricane, St. Albans, Cross Lanes, Sissonville, Charleston and other locations.
Other rainfall readings included 3.47 at Yeager Airport, 3.25 inches in Ona, 3.29 inches at the London Locks on the Kanawha River in eastern Kanawha County and 3.1 inches in St. Albans.
