Victim shot in Harrison County road rage incident

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A road rage incident in Harrison County Friday night sent one man to the hospital and another to jail.

Harrison County Deputies have charged Dewayne McElroy, 54, of Doddridge County with malicious wounding in the incident. According to investigators McElroy and another motorist were involved in an accident on U.S. Route 50 east of Clarksburg around 10:45 p.m. Friday. The pair pulled over at a gas station in the Wilsonburg community.

They got into a physical altercation which escalated to gunfire. Three shots from a handgun which fires shotgun ammunition were discharged. The victim was struck in the arm above the elbow.

According to deputies, McElroy fled the scene and was caught a short time later by the Salem Police.

He’d lodged in the North Central Regional Jail.

The victim’s name was not released and his condition is unknown.
