Fire claims a life in Monroe County

PETERSTOWN, W.Va. — An early morning blaze left an elderly man dead in his home in Monroe County Tuesday morning.

The state Fire Marshal confirms the 77-year old man died when fire engulfed his home on Seneca Trail South near Peterstown around 3 a.m. Investigators say one individual in the home was able to escape but the man could not.

The blaze also damaged a vehicle and a camper hooked to it.

Due to the level of damage investigators have deemed the cause of the fire as “undetermined”. The body of the victim was sent to the state Medical Examiner’s office for positive identification.
