ELKINS, W.Va — An Elkins police officer is on administrative leave after being charged with domestic battery in Barbour County.

Christian Mayle

“The Elkins Police Department is aware of the arrest of EPD Probationary Patrolman Christian Mayle over the weekend,” a statement from the Elkins Police Department said. “Patrolman Mayle is currently on administrative leave pending investigation into this matter. The Elkins Police Department is proceeding in accordance with State Law and Civil Service Rules as it relates to Patrolman Mayle’s employment with The City of Elkins. We cannot comment further on this ongoing investigation.”

According to a criminal complaint filed by a Belington police officer, Mayle, 25, allegedly threatened to kill a woman early Sunday morning. She told investigators he grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into a door.

The arresting officer did observe injuries on the woman, the criminal complaint said.

Mayle was arrested about a half-mile from the residence. He was processed at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

Domestic battery is a misdemeanor charge.
