Raleigh County school employee charged with theft

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A former employee of the Raleigh County school system is now charged with stealing from the school system and selling items which didn’t belong to him.

Derek Brooks, 39, is changed with selling property of the school system on E-bay. Court documents indicated he earned more than $122,000 on those sales. Investigators said the county lost close to $280,000.

Brooks was the Raleigh County schools network administrator at the time of the incident.. He previously was the head boys basketball coach at Wyoming East High School in Wyoming County.

Brooks is currently free on bond.
