SUTTON, W.Va. — A man and woman are in custody for allegedly using counterfeit money to purchase items in several West Virginia counties.
State police said Zacchaeus Barnes, 31, of Montgomery, Alabama, and Lorsharieria Barnes, 33, of Tampa, Florida, were arrested Friday evening at the park-and-ride near the intersection of US Route 19 and Interstate 79 in Braxton County. They were in a car troopers had been looking for after two people tried to pass a fake $100 bill earlier in the day in Summersville.
Troopers said they searched the vehicle and found “several hundred dollars in counterfeit U.S. currency and multiple receipts from retail establishments across various West Virginia counties.”
Zacchaeus Barnes is charged with using counterfeit money in Braxton, Nicholas and Raleigh counties. He’s sin the Central Regional Jail on a combined bail of $130,000. Lorsharieria Barnes is charged with crimes in Nicholas and Braxton counties and is being held on $90,000 bail.
State troopers said an investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
