Morgantown to welcome Parkersburg for WVSSAC Kickoff Game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The 2025 high school football season in West Virginia will kickoff with two of the state’s largest schools clashing at an iconic venue.

Morgantown will welcome Parkersburg to Pony Lewis Field for the annual WVSSAC Kickoff Game presented by The West Virginia Army National Guard on Thursday, August 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the matchup will air live on MetroNews Television and SportsNet Pittsburgh.

The Mohigans and Big Reds clashed in a 2024 season opener at PHS, a contest the Mohigans won, 24-13. As a result of a 2-hour rain delay, that game did not end until after midnight.

Morgantown went on to enjoy an 8-4 season that ended with a competitive quarterfinal round loss to eventual runner-up Spring Mills.

Parkersburg finished 4-7 in 2024.

Herbert Hoover rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to defeat Independence 37-30 in the 2024 WVSSAC Kickoff Classic.
