A key member of West Virginia’s baseball program each of the last three seasons, Logan Sauve became the first Mountaineer chosen in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft when the catcher was selected 200th overall in the seventh round by the Athletics on Monday.
Sauve, a native of Boiling Springs, Pa., was a staple of the program and played extensively as a freshman in 2023, hitting .267 with four home runs and 24 RBI over 43 starts and 52 games.
The next season, Sauve hit a career-best .308 over 44 starts, slugging eight home runs and driving in 37.
As a junior, Sauve was one of two on WVU and the team’s only position player to earn All-Big 12 First Team honors after he hit .276 with eight home runs and 36 RBI over 53 starts.

A strong defensive catcher, Sauve made 140 career starts and appeared in 151 games as a Mountaineer, finishing with a .284 batting average, 20 home runs, 29 doubles and 97 RBI. He drew 74 walks and struck out 107 times, including 51 base-on-balls and 67 strikeouts over the last two campaigns.
As the 200th pick, Sauve’s selection has a slot value just north of $304,000.
Athletic success runs in the family as Sauve’s father, Jeffrey, was a two-sport athlete at Clemson and went on to play for the Green Bay Packers after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox.

Four more Mountaineers were selected in the middle rounds. Hedgesville High School graduate and former University of Charleston outfielder Kyle West was picked by the New York Yankees in the 13th round with pick No. 404. West hit .298 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI in his two seasons in Morgantown.
With the very next pick and the final selection in the 13th round, pitcher Robby Porco was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Porco posted a 6-2 record with a 6.78 ERA in three years at WVU.
WVU’s Friday night starting pitcher came off the board in the 14th round. Griffin Kirn was selected with the 410th pick by the A’s. In his lone season as a Mountaineer, Kirn went 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA and he struck out 103 batters in 99 innings. Kirn earned NCBWA All-America Third Team honors and was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team.

Rounding out WVU’s five draft picks is outfielder Skylar King. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 15th round (pick No. 448). King played in 134 games over three seasons at WVU. He batted .274 with eight home runs and 61 RBI while adding 79 runs and 22 stolen bases.
