Train derailment in Terra Alta

TERRA ALTA, W.Va. — Part of a CSX train jumped the tracks in Preston County Thursday morning.

The derailment was reported near Terra Alta.

Preston County Office of Emergency Management Director Duane Hamilton said 13 cars derailed in the Salt Lick Road-Bridge Street area.

“None of them are haz-mat, all of the haz-mat cars are intact,” Hamilton said.

A drone was used to get a closer look at the derailment. There were no injuries, Hamilton said.

CSX and local emergency crews were still on the scene at 9 a.m. Thursday.

It’s the second CSX train to derail in the last week in West Virginia. A loaded coal train jumped the tracks in St. Albans late Saturday night.

Nine loaded cars of a 220-car train derailed. There were also no injuries reported.
