WASHINGTON, D.C. — West Virginia Second District Congressman Riley Moore says he’ll vote in favor of the continuing resolution to reopen the federal government when it comes up before the U.S. House Wednesday afternoon.

The Senate passed the measure on a 60 to 40 vote Tuesday. It extends government funding to Jan. 31, 2026. The Senate also passed three appropriations bills.
The government shutdown has lasted for 42 days.
“We’ve basically ended exactly where we started, exactly where we started,” Moore said Tuesday on MetroNews “Talkline.” “It actually ended better than where we started for the country and for the House.”
Moore said he’s hopeful the passage of the appropriations bills including full-year funding for Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; and Legislative Branch, will mean the Congress is moving toward passing a spending through regular order. He said the Democrats who joined Republicans in passing the continuing resolution Tuesday night have also agreed to approve four additional appropriations bills.
“The process on the hill (Capitol Hill) has been pretty stagnant over the years, it’s been CR and Omnibus, CR and Omnibus, we’re actually going to have real budget bills pass which I think is great,” Moore said.
Wednesday’s vote is scheduled for 4 p.m. Moore said he expects some House Democrats to join Republicans in reopening the government.
He also predicted Tuesday the House will take up the issue of subsidies for premiums linked to the Affordable Care Act in the near future.
“We do have a proposal and the Senate Republicans have a proposal of how to lower health care costs in this country, it doesn’t just have to be giveaways to insurance companies in terms of subsidies,” Moore said. “We do have a plan for this and once we unveil it people will see it.”
Both West Virginia U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice expressed frustration that the government shutdown has stretched on for as long as it had. They both released statements after Monday night’s vote in the Senate.
“After 41 days of delay, I’m glad we were able to reach a solution to reopen the government. It shouldn’t have taken this long to do the right thing for the American people. Our goal has always been simple: keep the government open and complete our appropriations process through regular order— the way the Senate is supposed to function,” U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito said in a Monday night statement. “I’m grateful to the Democrats who joined Republicans in voting to do just that. In addition to reopening our government, I am glad we were able to pass three full year Appropriations bills, and I look forward to passing more and completing our work,”
Justice called the shutdown an episode that “has been a total wreck for West Virginians and Americans alike.”
“I am happy to see common sense prevail, but it should not take over 40 days of a shutdown to make that happen. I urge the House of Representatives to quickly pass this bill, and encourage my Democrat colleagues to come to the table in good faith as we move forward. We need to put this behind us and get back to the real work of making life better for Americans across the board,” Justice said.
