Wayne water cleared for use

WAYNE, W.Va. –– The Mayor of Wayne has given the green light to municipal water customers to resume full use of the town’s water service.

Mayor Danny Grace on Friday announced the protective orders issued to residents over the town’s water service has been fully lifted.

“As of today, I am fully lifting my protective order on the Town of Wayne’s water supply. This decision follows recent lab results that show no detections of mineral oil or PCBs in our water plant or distribution system, as well as yesterday’s recommended residential flushing process,” said Grace in a statement. “Residents may now resume all normal water uses, including drinking and cooking. The Town of Wayne still has bottled water on hand and will continue distributing them while supplies last.”

Grace reminded customers to thoroughly flush their household water lines, per instructions provided by the town, before resuming use of tap water.

Earlier in the week the “Do Not Consume” order had been modified to a “Do Not Drink” order after tests continued to reflect no presence of oil in the water.

The oil was released from a transformer at an Appalachian Power substation by vandalism creating the water crises which lasted more than three weeks for residents.
