WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The prosecution has rested its case in the trial of a Mingo County man charged in the 2023 shooting death of State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard.

The state called its final witness to the stand Friday morning in the trial of Timothy Kennedy.
Kennedy, 32, is charged with attempted murder, in a shooting that caused Maynard to be dispatched to the Beech Creek area of Mingo County on June 3, 2023 and he’s charged with murder in Maynard’s death.
The state Medical Examiner testified Thursday Maynard’s death was a homicide and that he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The prosecution also called a number of expert witnesses to the stand who matched forensic and other types of evidence to Kennedy.
The jury also heard from Benjamin Baldwin, the victim in the first shooting.
The defense, which will begin calling witnesses to the stand Monday at 10 a.m,, told the jury during the trial’s opening statements that Kennedy was defending himself in the Baldwin shooting and that he was hallucinating from being high on meth when he shot Maynard.
Prosecutors said Maynard was ambushed.
