Preston County authorities identify body found in Cheat River

PRESTON COUNTY, W.Va. — A body discovered in the Cheat River last week has been identified.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department on Monday said the person is 24-year-old Jeremy Knotts, of Tunnelton.

Deputies on Friday were called to the river near George Washington Highway about a suspicious person who was “acting strange” according to a department press release. Deputies along with the Preston County Dive Team and various volunteer fire departments took part in the operation and body recovery.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
