AGs to White House: Help fix the problems

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is one of the ten state attorneys general calling on U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other members of the Obama Administration to back immediate legislation to address problems with the Affordable Care Act.

The five-page letter that was sent to Sebelius Wednesday, making the request, came from Morrisey along with attorneys general in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

Together, they cited statutory and regulatory delays, technological difficulties and concerns about the security the private information of consumers as reasons for additional legislative actions.

“Advocates and opponents of the Affordable Care Act can agree on one thing: the rollout of the health insurance exchange for individuals has been plagued with unimaginable problems,” said Morrisey in a statement.

“As attorneys general, we are obligated to fight to protect our consumers and, thus far, the implementation of ACA has been disastrous for them.”

There had been no response to the letter from the White House as of Wednesday evening.
