HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Thundering Herd backup quarterback Blake Frohnapfel’s days at Marshall appear to be over. He tweeted Friday afternoon he has requested a transfer and will finish his college career at another school.

Frohnapfel completed 17 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns this season, mostly in mop-up duty. For his career, Frohnapfel threw for 386 yards and five scores as Marshall’s backup.
Frohnapfel was part of Doc Holliday’s first recruiting class to Marshall, which happened to include Rakeem Cato. Frohnapfel was redshirted his freshman year and has seen limited playing time in each of the last two seasons.
His most significant playing time came in the 2012 regular season finale at East Carolina. Cato was injured in the second half and Frohanpfel nearly saved Marshall’s season. Frohnapel passed 101 yards on 12-of-15 and rushed for another 62 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown. The score gave Marshall a 45-42 lead in the fourth quarter, but The Herd’s defense couldn’t hold the advantage.
