Herd releases 2014 football schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—A rematch of the 2013 Conference USA Championship Game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium highlights Marshall’s 2014 football schedule.  Marshall announced the schedule feature six home dates Monday afternoon.

“It’s a very good schedule for us,” said Mike Hamrick, Marshall’s Director of Athletics. “The way it lays out, alternating between home and road games, is a plus. It’s good for our team and our fans. Our home schedule is filled with teams that are projected to be among the best in C-USA, along with the Herd.

The Herd will get the chance to avenge a loss to Rice in the C-USA Championship Game on Nov. 15 at The Joan.  Marshall will also get the chance to take on Middle Tennessee State at home on Oct. 11 after falling to the Blue Raiders on the final play of the game in Murfreesboro in 2013.  The other four home dates feature Rhode Island (Sept. 6), Ohio (Sept. 13), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 25) and Western Kentucky (Nov. 28).

“It’s a solid, competitive schedule for us,” Holliday said. “Like last year, we have a bye week between our four non-league games and our Conference USA opener (Oct. 4 at Old Dominion). Then halfway through conference play we have another bye, which balances the schedule.”

Marshall plays two non-conference games at Miami (OH) and at Akron.  The Herd will also go to Old Dominion, FIU, Southern Miss and UAB.

C-USA will play with seven teams in the East and six in the West for one season, before Charlotte becomes the 14th C-USA football member in 2015.
