HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—A rematch of the 2013 Conference USA Championship Game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium highlights Marshall’s 2014 football schedule.  Marshall announced the schedule feature six home dates Monday afternoon.

“It’s a very good schedule for us,” said Mike Hamrick, Marshall’s Director of Athletics. “The way it lays out, alternating between home and road games, is a plus. It’s good for our team and our fans. Our home schedule is filled with teams that are projected to be among the best in C-USA, along with the Herd.

The Herd will get the chance to avenge a loss to Rice in the C-USA Championship Game on Nov. 15 at The Joan.  Marshall will also get the chance to take on Middle Tennessee State at home on Oct. 11 after falling to the Blue Raiders on the final play of the game in Murfreesboro in 2013.  The other four home dates feature Rhode Island (Sept. 6), Ohio (Sept. 13), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 25) and Western Kentucky (Nov. 28).

“It’s a solid, competitive schedule for us,” Holliday said. “Like last year, we have a bye week between our four non-league games and our Conference USA opener (Oct. 4 at Old Dominion). Then halfway through conference play we have another bye, which balances the schedule.”

Marshall plays two non-conference games at Miami (OH) and at Akron.  The Herd will also go to Old Dominion, FIU, Southern Miss and UAB.

C-USA will play with seven teams in the East and six in the West for one season, before Charlotte becomes the 14th C-USA football member in 2015.

The Herd should run the table and go undeafeated with this schedule. Weak!!!

  • Bo

    Pathetic Schedule

  • MTB

The only that will be more embarrassing is when the Blundering Herd choke on the sprinkles from this cupcake schedule and lose 2 games this year.

  • just me

its a shame Cato has no chance for any honors with this schedule

  • Homecooking

What I read the AD saying is....this is a good schedule for MU, the fans and the team...then I hear him saying...the schedule was easy to put together....enough said!

  • Seen enough....Heard enough

I thought this was the Marshall side of Metro News, why are all of you WVU fans worried with what happens at MU ?

    • FNP

The question is....why do all of your Herd fans comment on all the WVU articles? Oh wait...because its the only legit university in the state.

      • Jason

So, literally your response is "you all do it, so I am doing it to"? You are implying it annoys you when MU fans post on WVU sites, so, knowing that, you deliberately choose to do the same thing to people. Is this you going out of your way to be deliberately antagonistic, just to teach us a lesson and keep the hope up, that someday us Herd fans will realize just how insignificant we and our university is compared to WVU and their ultra-cool fan base. You know, this bantering can come to an end with you...you can choose to be the bigger person and not respond in-kind to those posters that annoy you with the hopes of annoying you. If you let them win, they will keep doing it, that's how trolls work. However, if you pay them no mind, they will eventually lose interest and leave. Or, if you are feeling you are getting a rise out of people you don't know, and that does something for your psyche, enjoy.

        • Rodney Ruxin

Apparently, it took you 13 minutes to decide to add "the mud" to the end of your post. Obsess much over wording? You must have a government job and have plenty of time on your hands.

          • Jason

Well....Rod...since you asked..."the mud" post was posted first as per the time stamp. However, when I went back to the article a few minutes later, the post was not up. So I re-posted it "without the mud"...then a few minutes later..both were up. My bad for the re-post, but the original was not up...also...I do not work at a government job and if I did, I doubt it would be at 11pm at night. (no clue where the job thought process came from in the first place)

    Wow!!
If i was a Marshall fan this schedule would tick me off.
This is really sad Hamrick should be asking for forgiveness from the fan base.
What about the recruits, how do you get excited about playing D1 bottom level programs. I do not see one game that Marshall wins that will be impressive, are any of these teams from a BCS Conferance?
    Just sad.

    • Freeman

Louisville was their Marquee game this year, and Louisville pushed to postpone that game since they moved to the ACC. Now that Petrino is the coach, he is trying to break the contract to come to Huntington altogether. Thanks to scheduling games years in advance, Marshall is now left without that big game on their schedule. I agree Hamrick oversoftened the 4 game nonconference portion of the schedule, but some of that was out of his hands. He really likes the home and home with Ohio, which traditionally has been a good game (only for Ohio lately). Prior to last year or two, MU had some years during the rebuilding that they were playing 2-3 BCS schools in their nonconference schedule.

      • Interesting123

Scheduling years in advance makes it tough to predict what the SOS will be in that year. For instance, the Miami of Ohio series was announced in late 2009. In 2010 they had a ten win season and it looked like a good series. Now it looks horrible. Furthermore, the conference reshuffling only makes it that much more difficult. However, I am told its being addressed. MU is rumored to be working on scheduling Auburn in 2016 the same year Louisville will be coming to Huntington. Purdue will be in Huntington next year as well.

        • Brett

Agreed, but Petrino is going to break the deal to come to Huntington. Appears Purdue is slowly going to honor their home and home series. I would like to see Kentucky and Indianda on the schedule.

  • Herdsman

    Enjoy 4-8, WV fans.

    • FNP

Enjoy that weak conference you're in. You'll never make it to a BCS game nor will you ever sniff the new playoff system. Marshall is slowly creeping from the backseat to the trunk.

    • steve

      better than 0-12

    • hailey

Why would WVU fans be satisfied/enjoy 4-8... theyare not Marshall. in lo9oking over this schedule I can not see a loss

      • Mike

You are right. Marshall def isn't The Hole. We actually scored on and well beat Maryland.

Enjoy being 4-6, 5-5 or 5-6 for years and years to come. And fighting for the B12 last bowl spot.

Who fans think they belong with Ohio State, USC and Florida when in reality they are blow Iowa, K-State and N'Western and on par with Kansas and Iowa State, but then again both of those programs beat the Who also.

The Who doesn't have the facilities, resources, or money to compete with the upper and mid B12 schools, those are just the facts.

        • MTB

But have the resources to beat the Herd each and every time they have played. Doesn't matter who beat who in common opponents, all that matters is the simple fact that in head to head game Marshall has never beaten WVU, not even with their best team ever featuring Moss and Pennington, not even when Stewart spotted them a two touchdown lead late in the game. This my fellow friends is fact and will never change.

          • Mike

Congrats on beating Marshall 7 years in a row in our worst 8 years in a long time. Where Marshall didn't have a full 85 scholarship players and in 2006 was playing with a whopping 67 scholarship players.

The man that recruited anyone that came out of the Hole from 79-99 like Jeff Hostedler, Major Harris, Robert Alexander to newer players in Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey was recruited by Doc Holliday who now resides in Huntington WV. And the Hole will never pay Mike Hamrick the ransom for him.

As I said the Who will never have the money, resources or facilities to compete in the B12. Kansas may be horrid in the B12 in football but Memorial Stadium is 10x better than the stadium in the Hole you play football in.

You also have 2 drunkards as coaches in CHuggins and Holgerson. And an incompetent AD that has been trying to leave there for the past 3 years. Your president took off for the 1st job that was ever offered to him and now you are stuck with GEEwillikers again.

      • Rodney Ruxin

Why would Marshall fans be satisfied/enjoy this schedule or C-USA? The state of WV needs to invest in Marshall to facilitate a move to the next level. Marshall is good enough academically and with athletics to make a jump. At this point, joining the AAC or MAC would be a step in the right direction. Jason help me out here.

        • Aaron

The MAC will not take them back and as bad as the AAC is and as much as it fits, Im not sure they will take Marshall.

    • Rodney Ruxin

Again, I would rather be 4-8 in a major conference getting paid, than to play this schedule. I like Marshall, I truly do, but at least last years schedule had VT. I understand things happen and Louisville dropped the game but somebody with credibility must have needed a game. For shame Hambrick.

  • Greg

Wait a minute haters. They're playing Miami? Oh, that's Miami of Ohio. Never mind.

  • FNP

The sad thing is....they will lose 2 of these games.

  • Big Jake

Wow!! That is one of the toughest high school schedules in the country.

  • Rodney Ruxin

This leads me to the question I keep asking:
As a fan would you rather go undefeated playing this schedule -or- be .500 in a major conference?

  • wvfreys

What a crappy schedule - maybe Marshal is finally realizing what level they belong on and scheduling accordingly.

  • richard

wow, not one big name on here. i like the herd----but this doesn't do it. go undefeated and you still may not be in top 25. shame.

  • Givemeabreak

Wow...Martinsburg High School would be a better challenge than any of these guys!!!
