UMWA set to rally in Racine

RACINE, W.Va. — Democratic candidates in the upcoming November General Election will try to energize the base Monday at the 76th annual UMWA Labor Day Celebration in Boone County.

The list of speakers at the John Slack Memorial Park in Racine include Congressman Nick Rahall, U.S. Senate candidate, Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, state Treasurer John Perdue and UMWA President Cecil Roberts.

This year’s picnic comes at a struggling time for the coal industry in Boone County. Hundreds of coal miners have been given WARN notices in recent months.

Monday’s rally begins at 11:30 a.m. with opening remarks with the speeches set to start at 1 p.m.
