Saturday’s cold sets records

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service said record low temperatures for Nov. 15 were either tied on broken in four locations Saturday morning.

The official low of 17 degrees in Charleston and Huntington Saturday tied previous records. In Charleston, it was also that cold in 1920 and 1969. In Huntington, the low dipped to 17 in 1900 and 1920.

Parkersburg, 15 degrees, and Clarksburg, 17 degrees, set record lows Saturday. The Parkersburg low broke the previous record of 16 degrees set in 1996. In Clarksburg, 18 degrees had been the record low since 1942.

Temperatures moderated across the state Saturday afternoon.

The Clarksburg record and the low of 15 at the Charleston NWS office are considered unofficial according to the weather service.
