CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Thursday was a deadly night on the roads in West Virginia.
In Cabell County, the drivers of two vehicles were killed in a wreck on Interstate 64 west near the Huntington Mall exit. Authorities said a passenger in one of the vehicles also died later Friday.
I-64 west was closed to traffic for about six hours Friday morning with traffic being taken off the highway and put back on at the Huntington Mall as the investigation continued. The highway re-opened around 7 a.m.
Barboursville police were handling the investigation into what they called a wrong-way accident.
Investigators said they believed Kimberly Insco, 43, of Barboursville, entered the highway going eastbound in the westbound lanes at mile marker 18, Merritt Creek, and traveled for nearly two miles before hitting another vehicle driven by Samantha Julian of Williamsburg, Va.
A passenger in Julian’s vehicle, Juventino Ramirez, of Guatemala, later died at a hospital.
Also around midnight, deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department said two people died in a single-vehicle crash along Harper Road near Surveyor. The vehicle struck a tree.
Investigators said alcohol and marijuana may have been factors in the wreck.
In Boone County, one person was killed when a vehicle crashed on Route 1 near Ridgeview around 10 p.m.
