FORT WORTH, Texas – West Virginia’s B.J. Myers lasted only one inning, the shortest start of his career, and No. 8 TCU kept pouring on the hits in a 14-2 win Sunday that completed a weekend sweep.
The Horned Frogs (16-3, 3-0 Big 12), playing in front of 4,190 fans at Lupton Stadium, collected 16 hits and beat WVU for the ninth consecutive meeting.
“We are certainly capable of scoring runs, we’ve already proven that,” said TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle. “I think today was a combination of putting together a lot of good at-bats. The balls we hit hard fell in and the balls we didn’t hit hard fell in too. It’s not a statement on West Virginia, I think they are a regional-caliber team and I’m sure that’ll be proven out over the course of the year.”
Freshman designated hitter Marques Inman had a two-run first-inning single for West Virginia, a lead that was short-lived when TCU struck for four runs in the bottom half on Luken Baker’s grand slam.
The Frogs extended their lead to 5-2 in the second inning on a sac fly by Cam Warner, and Elliott Barzille’s fifth homer made it 7-2 in the third against Braden Zarbnisky.
TCU opened the game up with a five run fourth inning to take a 12-2 lead. Five runs scored on four hits with one WVU error. The Horned Frogs added two in the fifth with a double and a sacrifice fly.
Rex Hill (2-1) settled in after a rocky start to toss five innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. TCU’s defense turned three double plays.
West Virginia first baseman Jackson Cramer singled to reach base for the 37th consecutive game.
WVU visits Penn State on Tuesday and travels to Kansas for a three-game series next weekend.
