Former Weirton Steel property sold

WEIRTON, W.Va. – Frontier Group of Companies bought the former Weirton Steel property Wednesday, which could have a significant economic impact for the city.

The 1,100 acres included the BOP Shop and related structures, barge loading areas and Brown’s Island.

The Buffalo, N.Y.-based Frontier Group bought the property from ArcelorMittal, and said it plans to redevelop the site for another purpose.

Frontier Group has been involved in numerous industrial, development and residential projects throughout the United States.

In 2012, Frontier Group bought the site of the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Mill. The company sold the site to ACERO Junction in December after making various changes, including renovating buildings.
