Bruceton Mills, W.Va. — An out-of-town truck driver who smashed his big rig into a Preston County deputy’s SUV could temporarily lose his license.
According to West Virginia State Police, Willis Antonio Day, Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland failed to merge into a passing lane on Interstate 68 Tuesday morning as he approached a disabled tractor-trailer and emergency vehicles. The 31-year-old reportedly crashed into an unoccupied 2015 Ford Police Interceptor forcing it into the back of a 1999 Bruceton-Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department truck.
There were no injuries.
Day was charged with failure to merge while approaching an emergency vehicle, a misdemeanor.
Investigators said Day also faces a mandatory 90-day suspension of his license due to property damage.
State police, emergency vehicles and sheriff’s deputies were on scene at the 22.5 mile marker where the right, west bound lane of the interstate was closed because the disabled truck was leaking fuel.
The highway was closed for several hours Tuesday morning.
