Charges increased in McDowell County shooting

IAEGER, W.Va. — Charges were increased Friday against a McDowell County man accused of shooting his girlfriend and her teenage son in November 2016.

Michael Kennedy now faces two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Jessica Daugherty and her 16-year old son. Daugherty and the teen were gunned down at a home in Iaeger. The boy died at the scene. Daugherty died at a nursing home last week from wounds suffered in the incident.

Kennedy is jailed without bond awaiting trial.
