CAMC confirms where some of its 300 layoffs will occur

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — With previously announced plans to lay off 300 workers by the end of the year, Charleston Area Medical Center confirmed Friday 40 of the those positions will come from the hospital’s nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

The layoffs will take effect Nov. 4, a CAMC spokesperson told WSAZ-TV Friday evening.

CAMC’s human resources department is working with the impacted workers, the spokesperson said.

CAMC announced July 26 its plans to eliminate 300 jobs by the end of the year.

“These are difficult economic times for our region and our health care delivery system across southern West Virginia. After the first five months of 2017, CAMC operations were on course to lose more than $40 million in 2017,” CAMC CEO Dave Ramsey said at the time.

CAMC said Friday it is still recruiting bedside nurses.
