Judge sends accused murderer to jail for 6 months for obscene gesture

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Harrison County circuit judge held an accused murderer in contempt of court Friday for not apologizing for an obscene gesture he made to a reporter when in the courtroom for a motions hearing.

Daniel Claude Amsler,

Harrison County Circuit Judge James Matish ordered Daniel Amsler, 55, of Clarksburg, to spend six months in jail for the incident. Matish postponed Amsler’s trial until after the additional jail time is served.

Reports indicate Amsler made separate obscene gestures. He apologized for one but not the other.

He was scheduled to go on trial next week for the March 2017 robbery and death of Keyairy Dawn “Keya” Wilson, of Columbus, Ohio.

Co-defendant Elizabeth Lady Bird Jenkins, 52, of Clarksburg, has already been sentenced to life without parole in the case for shooting and killing Wilson.
