Police: Car chases, shots fired, and more mayhem involved in fatal Fairmont shooting

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — One man is dead following a Monday night shooting on Fairmont’s east side.

Kevin Blanks, 29, was pronounced dead after being discovered not breathing on Front Street.

Police believe the shooting occurred near Columbia Street, where they initially responded around 9:15 p.m. Monday.

Witnesses told police that there were people “on foot” and “in vehicles” involved in the incident. The vehicles are reportedly both silver. One is believed to be a four-door sedan, possibly with a loud exhaust.

Police believe there are four potential crime scenes involving a combination of shootings and robberies. Blanks was reportedly in a vehicle that was shot multiple times, which is considered a fifth “mobile” crime scene.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects, vehicles, and any other pertinent information relating to the case.

At present, two white men are believed to be involved in the shooting. One man is believed to be 5’10” and was wearing jeans and a dark shirt and hoodie. The other man was reportedly wearing a white shirt.

Police said there are about 30 minutes of time they have not been able to account for, and are seeking information about how Blanks went from Merchant Street to Front Street. They believe a potential chase and interaction between the two vehicles occurred in the areas of Columbia Street, Morgantown Avenue, Homewood Avenue, and Palatine Avenue.

Fairmont Police can be reached at (304) 366-4200.
