Workers walk out of Bluewell Coca-Cola plant

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. — Employees of the Coca-Cola plant in Mercer County went on strike Wednesday after working without a contract for more than three months.

The Teamsters Local 175 authorized the strike in late September. The union represents 28 workers at the plant in the community of Bluewell.

Employees had been working without a contract since July 28.

Brian Nick, vice president of communications of Coca-Cola Bottling Co., told WVVA-TV the company is ready to continue negotiations, but the union is not taking part in the “good faith effort.”

“We greatly value our West Virginia teammates and don’t believe the union’s refusal to continue negotiations is in the best interest of our teammates,” he also said.
