CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Senator Greg Boso is resigning from the state Senate.
Boso, R-Nicholas, submitted his resignation letter to the Senate clerk Monday morning. It takes effect Thursday.
Boso, an engineer, recently accepted the position of president of Forensic Consulting Group, a forensic engineering practice. He said the new job requires more travel time outside the state and would have caused him to miss several days of next year’s legislative session.
Boso talked about his time in the Senate during a Monday morning floor speech.
“I want to say thank you. To you, Mr. President (Senate President Mitch Carmichael), and to each of you, my fellow senators, for allowing me to serve with you over the last five years. It’s truly been an honor,” Boso said. “I loved serving you and serving the people of West Virginia.”
Boso was appointed to the Senate in 2015 and was elected to a four-year term the following year. His seat is up for election in 2020.
The 11th Senatorial District is one of the Senate’s largest geographically covering Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur, Webster and part of Grant counties. Senator Bill Hamilton, R-Upshur, is the other senator that represents the district.
Gov. Jim Justice will appoint a replacement to finish Boso’s term. The choice will be announced after a meeting of the Eleventh Senatorial District committee. The panel will send three names to the governor within 15 days of Boso’s resignation. Justice then has five days to name a replacement.
