MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s 67-59 win over then-No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday opened some eyes this week.
The Mountaineers (11-1) moved up to No. 16 in this week’s AP Top 25. West Virginia was ranked 22nd last week. The Buckeyes fell to fifth after losing to WVU.
West Virginia is ranked 17th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. As in the AP Poll, the Mountaineers moved up six spots this week.
The Mountaineers are ranked ninth nationally in the NCAA’s NET rankings. The NET replaced the old Ratings Percentage Index last season, and is used as a tool for NCAA tournament seeding.
There will be an opportunity to move up even more spots this week when West Virginia visits Kansas on Saturday afternoon. The Jayhawks are ranked third in both polls and second in the NET.
McBride named Big 12 newcomer of the week
WVU freshman point guard Miles McBride is the Big 12’s newcomer of the week.
McBride came off the bench for a game-high and career-high 21 points in West Virginia’s win over Ohio State. He was 6-for-12 from the field, including 3 of 4 from three-point range.
