Capito invited to economic task force

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., is among the federal lawmakers serving on a bicameral group responsible for working with President Donald Trump about reopening the economy following the coronavirus pandemic.

Lawmakers learned Wednesday if they were invited to join the Congressional Economic Task Force. All Republican senators except Utah’s Mitt Romney are part of the body.

“There is no question this pandemic has impacted our state and our entire country from many different angles — particularly the health of our citizens and our economy,” Capito said.

“While we must continue to follow the advice of medical experts and practice social distancing, we need to look ahead to make sure we are taking the right steps to get our economy open and moving when this pandemic passes. That means working to make sure our small businesses and communities have the proper resources.”

Trump announced Thursday a three-phase approach for reopening the country, relying on local and state governments to make changes based on the number of cases.
