A memorial service for West Virginia basketball legend Mike Barrett will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Richwood High School Auditorium.
Barrett, who won a gold medal as a member of the U.S. basketball team at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, died Aug. 8 in Nashville, Tenn. He was 67.
Members of his family, including his wife Carolyn, will be at the service. Also expected are a number of his former teammates from Richwood High School and West Virginia Tech.
Barrett was a star player at Richwood and Tech before joining the Navy and being selected for teams that represented the United States in international competition.
Following the 1968 Olympics, he played professionally in the old American Basketball Association.
He was named West Virginia Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1968, and in 1980, he was inducted into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
